We are delighted to announce the successful culmination of a landmark panel discussion focused on “Safeguarding Cultural Heritage in the Time of Crisis.” Held at the Municipality Tivat’s Multimedial Hall, this event brought together esteemed experts and stakeholders to address the critical issue of combating the illicit trafficking of cultural property.

Facilitated by Jove Pargovski from N.I. Institute and Museum Bitola and Aida Vežić, Secretary General of the Balkan Museum Network, the panel provided a platform for insightful discussions and knowledge sharing among participants.

The panel featured distinguished speakers, including:

  • Lujza Varga from the Hungarian National Museum, who shared valuable insights from her extensive experience in cultural heritage management, emphasizing the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration in crises.
  • Prof. Dr. Nataliya Chukhray, Vice-Rector at Lviv Polytechnic National University, offered invaluable perspectives on international projects, highlighting her involvement in the EU Horizon program “Aurora,” which focuses on safeguarding cultural property.
  • Olivera Djartovska Tachevska, President of the Macedonian National Committee of Blue Shield, provided critical insights based on her deep engagement with heritage preservation, underscoring the urgent need for collective action in protecting cultural artifacts.
  • Cameron Walter, Customs Adviser and Head of the Heritage Crime Task Force at the OSCE, shared his unique experiences in coordinating international efforts against heritage crime across borders, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in combating illicit trafficking.

The event served as a significant milestone for the AURORA project, providing an opportunity to exchange ideas, share best practices, and raise awareness about the pressing challenges facing our cultural heritage.

As we continue our collective efforts to safeguard our rich cultural legacy, the insights and recommendations generated from this panel discussion will play a crucial role in guiding future initiatives within the AURORA project and beyond.
